Gaetano Donizetti
Roberto Devereux
03 Mar, 13 - 07 Mar, 13
Musical conductor: Andriy Yurkevych
This fictitious tale of Queen Elizabeth I’s love for the Earl of Essex reflects one of the most tragic moments in the life of its composer, Gaetano Donizetti, as he wrote it after his young wife died while giving birth to a stillborn child. A master of bel canto and a bridge between Rossini and Verdi, as the creator of numerous operas with a historical flavour set in England in order to escape censorship, Donizetti finds one of his greatest heroines in the recreation of the ill-fated queen by Edita Gruberova in the version that will be heard at the Teatro Real, where she will be accompanied by two safe values, namely Sonia Ganassi and José Bros.
